The catholic dormitory Roncalli House Bochum hosts 156 students. It is located close to the Ruhr University Bochum, 15-20 min by foot. The metro station of U35 is about 7 min away, it gets you to the university in 2 min or to Bochum city centre in 10 min. Close to Roncalli-Haus you find all shopping possibilities you need, 5 min to supermarkets (Aldi, Frischmarkt), bakery, bank (Sparkasse), hairdresser, pizzeria, takeaways, and …
The Roncalli House Team welcomes students from all nations and religions and place importance to give them insights about Christian values and German traditions.
Beside shared areas like large kitchens and balconies, there are other areas which include a music room with a piano, a library where you can focus on studying, a sports room in the basement where you can play table football and table tennis (at the moment the common rooms are closed because of Corona). Outside facilities involve several beds of flowers, a medicinal plants bed, a terrace decorated with exotic pot plants and a wide lawn to do sports like volleyball on and sunbathe. In addition to that, there is a sun terrace on the flat roof of the building B.
Next to numerous communal activities like parties, visits to the theater or cinema, which are organized by the tutorial or different floors, the dormitory hosts one summer festival and two welcoming days for newcomers. On the cultural evening in autumn, inhabiters can show their talents, and important events like the football World Cup are watched in a public viewing outside or in the great foyer.
“Bochum’s Roncalli House is now being supplied with environmentally friendly green electricity by Stadtwerke Bochum. The owner of the Catholic dormitory concluded an individual agreement with the energy supplier for this purpose.
The student accommodation, which offers 156 rooms for students close to the university, has an annual electricity requirement of around 120,000 kilowatt hours (kWh). The conversion to green electricity will save more than 24 tonnes of carbon dioxide from now on.” – Stadtwerke Bochum
